Description

Novel phylotype with no cultured representatives. Cells are observed as small rods distributed throughout the activated sludge flocs 1. MAR-FISH analyses indicate a narrow substrate range, only assimilating pyruvate from those tested. Anoxic carbon uptake indicates possibly ability for fermentation or the use of an unknown residual electron acceptor 1. Inclusion of nitrite in anoxic incubations does not give a noticeable increase in carbon uptake indicating an inability for denitrificaiton 1.
