SEM of pure cultures of Ca. Nostocoida. Scale bar = 2 microns. - Source:2Aerobic heterotroph
Filamentous organisms occasionally implicated in bulking 1. No in situ information is available and their poor growth in pure culture has made it difficult to determine the physiology of the organism. They are likely chemoorganoheterotrophs 2. Note that of the four original isolates of the genus, only one classifies as Nostocoida in the SILVA and MiDAS taxonomy. Two classify as Singuilisphaera and the other as Isosphaera.
