Description

This phylotype has Ruminococcus gauveauii as its sole isolate and the current profile is based on this species. R. gauvreauii is a strict anaerobe with a fermentative metabolism producing mainly acetate as a biproduct of glucose fermentation. It can not utilise nitrate as an electron acceptor 2. They are only present in abundance in the influent wastewater and are likely unimportant in the activated sludge process.
