Description

No in situ information is available for the genus. Members have a fermentative metabolism with an affinity for sugar substrates 3 2 4 5. Growth is chemoorganotrophic and occurs under strictly anaerobic conditions 3. Cells occur as straight to curved rods occurring singly or in pairs 3, however C. algeriensis can also appear as long chains in pure culture 2.
