Description

There is no specific in situ data for the genus. The sole isolate, L. tardivitalis, is an obligate anaerobe isolated from a mesophilic anaerobic digester. The isolate can ferment sugars and proteinaceous carbon sources supporting growth. By-products of glucose fermentation are acetate, lactate, pyruvate, hydrogen along with minor amounts of succinate and formate 2.
