Beskrivelse

De fleste Tetrasphaera er PAO, denitrifikanter og fermenterende. De har forskelligt udseende, nogle er trådformende f.eks. er Eikelboom "Nostcoida limicola II" formentlig en Tetrasphaera, men de forårsager sjældent skum eller bundfældnings problemer.

Fysiologi

De er metabolsk meget diverse; nogle er PAOer (BioP), alle fermenterer, nogle kan denitrificere og alle er aerob heterotrofe; de oplagrer ikke PHA som andre PAOer.

Udbredelse og anlægs/proces-forhold

Findes i renseanlæg med biologisk N og P-fjernelse. Kan være meget udbredt i danske anlæg med helt op til 30% af biomassen.
